HHI Bridge Club Monday - Intermediate/Novice (0-299) 6:45 pm - Lesson 7:15 pm - Game
Game News and Notes
♣ Sunday, October 2nd Monday Night - October 3rd The game on Monday night will be a special game ... the game will start at 6:45 p.m. and the lesson will follow immediately after the game. Please help me get the word out to your friends!
We have been studying New Minor Forcing (NMF) for the past several weeks. The game Monday night will have a number of preset boards where NMF opportunities present themselves. If you don't yet have a grasp of NMF ... don't worry about it. You do not have to play NMF to play in Monday's game! You and your partner may use any legal partnership agreements to bid the hands ... or just wing-it. After the game we will review the preset hands on the overhead and you can compare how you bid the hands with using the NMF biddings agreements we have been learning in class. What fun! This will give you immediate feedback with real examples of how you and others bid the hands. If you mess up ... don't worry ... that is how you learn. I have heard many top players say they never consider they know a bidding agreement until they mess it up at least twice.
If you need a partner for Monday night, let me know. There will be a guaranteed partner for Monday night (see Guaranteed Partner below). ♣ Sunday, October 2nd September 26th Last week was an ACBL International Fund Game in support of Red Cross' Katrina relief efforts. We had 8 full tables ... overall winners were:
Congratulations to
all. The results from the September 26th game can be reviewed on
the internet by clicking on the following link
♣ Friday, September 30th Guaranteed Partner In the past, the Monday Night Game has guaranteed a partner for people who would like to play, but for whatever reason did not have a partner –– visiting from out of town, new to the game, regular partner is not available. Thankfully, Jane McKay has agreed to continue to support the game and be a guaranteed partner when her schedule allows. We owe a great deal of thanks to Jane for helping to register people and play as a guaranteed partner, but we need a backup solution to the partnership issue. Jane will not always be available, and as Director, I cannot support the other players in the game if I am playing. In addition to not meeting the 299'er restriction, it puts me in an awkward position answering questions, making rulings, and maintaining the pace and play of the game. People have paid to play in the game and they deserve a director's full attention.
But having a guaranteed partner should be a last resort to finding a partner. Bridge is a partnership game! You cannot do well in this game without a regular partnership. To help you find a partner I will compile and post a list of people that are willing to come and play, even on a moment's notice. In addition, I will work with players to help them find a compatible partner for the games. I will be sending out a weekly news emailing on the actives and schedule, if you need a partner for Monday night please let me know. I will help you find a partner. ♣ Thursday, September 28th
Intermediate and novice bridge players, are extremely fortunate that
our HHI Bridge Association (HHIBA)* annually hosts two ACBL District 7
- Non-Life Master (NLM) tournaments. If you think you have
experienced bridge ... tournaments are something else ...
What GREAT fun! Click on
this link
One of
the main features of tournaments are teams of 4 competition (Swiss
Teams and Knockouts). Team competition is not the same as pairs
competitions. To help you get ready for team competition, I have
asked a number of experienced pairs to play with non-life master pairs
in the Tuesday Night Team game over the next several weeks. Last
week, Sheila Goad
& Sonya Friedman
played with Don Buchanan & Karen Ricker and
Ken Kerr
& Hal Wood
played with George Moss and myself. Both teams did real well
against some tough competition Ken & Hal's team placed 1st
and Sheila & Sonya's team placed 2nd. You can check
out results by clicking on the following link
If you
are interested in playing in tournaments, it is a must to be able to
compete in teams competition. If you would like to play with an
experienced pair call me 843.363.6416 or send me an email
* If you are not members of HHIBA, you should join ... see me. ♣ Thursday, September 28th Received the following email ... isn't the internet wonderful.
Fred, I certainly want you to know that I appreciate being able to attain copiers of your lectures through the internet. My wife and I live in Florida and the only time we can attend your club is when we are visiting in HH.
Best regards, Howard Crum ♣ Tuesday, September 27th Study Papers: Monday Night Lessons As I promised last night, I have now posted the study papers from the last four weeks. In addition, I have posted the game notices as these notices contain information about games, events, etc. that you may want to revisit.
You can
