Katrina

All the games at the club this next week, including our game on Monday night, will be $7.00.  The extra $1.00 goes to support ACBL's joint efforts help our neighbors in the gulf coast states in the aftermath of Katrina.  ACBL has designated these games as International Fund Games. 

 

September 19th

Last week we had 6 full tables ... Babs Kelley & Barbara Farbman were 1st N/S and there was a tie E/W with the teams of Barb Kokenes & Elizabeth Hanson and Rudy Mueller & Marty Bloom in a photo finish.  The results from the September 19th game can be reviewed on the web at   http://www.freewebs.com/hhscores/050919FE.HTM .

 

Lesson: New Minor Forcing

The lesson for Monday September 26th (6:45 pm) is Introduction to New Minor Forcing.   Over the last three weeks we have been building up to learning about invitational and forcing bids after a 1Nt Rebid.  On September 5^th we covered Notrump Bidding Sequences and on September 12^th we covered Systems On bids after natural notrump bids.  Last week, September 19^th, we covered the all important 1Nt Rebid.  This week we will cover part four on the fundamentals of New Minor Forcing.  A very important convention for serious bridge players.

 

For players who may have missed any of the earlier lessons, I will be at the club by 6:15 pm on Monday and conduct an informal review, and answer questions on the 3 classes leading up to our discussions on Monday of New Minor Forcing.  If you did not get any of the handouts, send me an email and I will give you the web links to download or print copies of the 3 previous handouts.

 

Game Time

If you do not wish to attend the lesson, you should be at the club, in your seat, and ready to play by 7:15 pm.

 

Special Game on October 3rd: New Minor Forcing Challenge

On October 3rd we will conclude our series on New Minor Forcing with a special game.  I will have boards prepared in advance with selected hands on 1Nt Rebids and New Minor Forcing.  Instead of a lesson in advance of the game, we will play the hands first and after the game we will review the selected hands.  This will be a good test to see if you and your partner have gotten a grasp of 1Nt Rebids and New Minor Forcing.

 

Team Competition - Non-Life Master (NLM) Tournament

As many of you may know by now there is a NLM Tournament here on HHI October 13 to 16.  To help you get ready for team competition, I have asked a number of experienced pairs to be available to play with non-life master pairs in the Tuesday Night Teams game over the next several weeks.  For example, I have arranged for Sheila Goad and Sonya Friedman to play with Don Buchanan (950 masterpoints) and Karen Ricker (750 masterpoints) both experienced in the strategy of teams competition.  If you are interested in playing in tournaments, it is a must to be able to compete in teams competition.  It is not the same as pairs competitions.  If you would like to play with an advanced pair call me or send me an email ASAP and I will do my best to match you up with an experience pair.

 

Guaranteed Partner

I have not yet found the solution to having a guaranteed partner for Monday nights.  I know there has been some confusion ... please be patient.  I am new to this game and have not directed I/N games in years.  As I told the game last week, I will only play myself in a game if it is to fill out a table.  It is not fair to the rest of the field for me to play to create a sit-out.  If you need a partner, please let me know.
