ACBL INSTANT MATCHPOINT GAME

On Wednesday September 10th at 7:00 pm the HHI Bridge Club will run the ACBL Instant Matchpoint Game a special gold point game.  In addition to gold points players will have a chance to earn extra red and black points in competition with winners from other clubs.

The annual Instant Match Point Game is a special event of ACBL and features, in addition to gold points, a booklet with complete analyses of the deals by many-time national champion Richard Pavlicek.  The card fee for this special game is higher than usual - $9.00 for the game and Instant Match Point analysis and booklet.

A special thanks to Doris Caudy who originally registered for the game and is allowing the Bridge Club to use her registration.

Friday Night Sept. 19th - Australian Wine Tasting

Our next Friday Night Bridge game will be Friday night, September 19th.  At September’s game we will have a wine tasting of Australian Shiraz wines.  Shiraz [shih-RAHZ] or as we in America call it Syrah [sih-RAH] is a majestic red with a pronounced pepper, spice, black cherry, and roasted nut flavors.  In France it is grown in the Rhone region, but the Australians are the ones who have made the wine popular with an increasing number of high-quality vineyards.

The Wall Street Journal last year published an article on Southeast Australian Shiraz focusing on quality wines for less than $20 a bottle.  I have been able to obtain bottles from the WSJ’s recommended list of very good wines.  I have bottles of: Lindemans Bin 50, Jacob’s Creek, Black Opal (received the highest rating from WSJ’s tasting), and Koala Blue (Olivia Newton-John’s winery).  And to give you something to compare it too I have some Kendall‑Jackson California Syrah.  In addition, I will be making a Shiraz Sangria.  The party and festivities will start at 6:00 pm … with the game starting by 6:45 pm, thus, giving everyone a chance to play.

District 7 Charity Games

On Wednesday September 24th both the afternoon game 1:00 pm and night game 7:00 pm will be special District 7 Charity Pairs games.

Joe Burke Appointed to the HHIBA Board

Lee Sturm has announced that Kathie Walsh has now signed an agreement with HHIBA to instruct and direct Easybridge games for the club.  To avoid any conflict of interest Kathie has resigned from the Board of HHIBA.  Lee also announced that Joe Burke has been appointed to fill the 17 months of Kathie’s term.  In addition to serving on the Board, Joe will serve the club as Computer Services Director.  The club’s computer recently received a virus putting the operation of the games at risk.  In making the announcement Lee emphasized how important this position is to the continuation of the club’s operation.
