Saying Goodbye to Marty Nathan

It is with deep regret that we will be saying goodbye to Marty Nathan in June.  Marty and his wife Patty moved to HHI last year as a result of Patty signing a one year teacher's agreement to join the faculty of Hilton Head Prep.  Marty and Patty will be returning to their home in Atlanta at the end of the school year.  During Marty's year in HHI he did a great deal to help in building the bridge community and transition to the new Bridge Club.  Marty was a valuable resource to many of us trying to learn the game of bridge.  I will especially miss Marty as a regular partner, but look forward to continuing our friendship over the bridge table at tournaments and visits to Atlanta.  Marty will be directing his last game in HHI on Wednesday Night June 11th ... come play in Marty's last game.

Alan Keller wins Wednesday Night May Series with 58.72% game average.

In addition to the weekly game winners, the Wednesday Night Green/White Game awards a monthly bonus for the top four players (and ties) in the monthly series of games.  For an open game series, ACBL allows a masterpoint bonus calculated on the number of tables in play during the series up to 1.5 masterpoints ... the more tables in play the greater the series bonus.  Everyone who plays in the Wednesday Night game is automatically entered into the series calculation, however, to be eligible for bonus awards a player must play in 3 of the 4 series games.  Winners are based on the average game percentage over the actual games played.

Alan Keller played in three of the Wednesday night games, twice with his wife Carol Keller and once with Dave Woods, and had game percentages of 52.13%, 61.40% and 62.63% for a game average of 58.72%.  Alan receives .48 bonus master points for placing 1st in the series.  Marty Nathan played in all four games of the May series with four different partners - Marvin Shatz, Kathie Walsh, Karen Ricker and Peter Wolf; and averaged 58.00% over the four games and receives .47 bonus masterpoints.  And, the husband-wife team of John and Barbara Kiebler tie or 3rd/4th place with 57.98% and receive .22 bonus masterpoints.

The June series starts next week Wednesday, May 28th and concludes Wednesday, June 18th.
