Calendar

There are a number of special games on the calendar for the next two months.  Posted below are the special games and area tournaments for the balance of April and the months of May and June.  This edition of 1NT, highlights some of the up-coming special games.

 .

Tuesday, April 25 - Team Game

Gatlinburg was great!  Final tournament statistics are not yet available, but it looks like there were 9,564.5 tables in play setting new records for Gatlinburg, and setting Gatlinburg apart as the nation's No. 1 regional.  1NT will post tournament statistics and the masterpoints earned as soon as available.

We are back on the regular schedule for the Tuesday night Team Game.  Tuesday, April 25 will be a special ACBL Membership Game, ACBL members will earn masterpoints at 100% of sectional rating awards, but costs nothing extra.

It helps getting the game started on time, if you will drop me an email or call and register in advance by giving me the names of the players on your team.  If you need help forming a team call or email me!

Sunday, April 30 - Stakeholder Game #8 Super Club Championship

The Stakeholder program is established as a friends of bridge program to support the Hilton Head Island Bridge Association above the annual membership level.  This program is open to anyone who wishes to make a 'one time' contribution of $50 (or more) to HHIBA, thus, supporting the future of bridge on Hilton Head.

One of the tangible benefits of the Stakeholder program are the annual Stakeholder Games.  Free to stakeholders ($6 card fee and $10 game fee to non-Stakeholders) these games are one of the most fun and exciting games each year.  Each Stakeholder Game is a club championship and the club is always filled to capacity.

If you wish to play in the April 30 Stakeholder game you must sign-up at the club or by email/phone to Peter Seery by Friday, April 28.  This is a seeded event and walk-ins will be accommodated on a space available basis ONLY.  If your last name begins with a letter between K and Z you are requested to bring some kind of food to share.  There is a sign-up sheet at the club.  For additional information, contact Peter Seery (pseery@adelphia.net)

The Bridge Club is offering the course Modern Bridge Defense as a part of its 2006 Spring Training Program.  The course will teach Modern Bridge Defense based primarily on the book by Eddie Kantar.  Classes will be held on Fridays from 9:30 am to 11:30 am running 8 weeks beginning Friday, March 24th and ending Friday, May 19th.  For a copy of the course syllabus or information on registration, contact Fred Ferguson at 843.363.6416 or email fred@onent.com.

Class No. 5 – Friday, April 28, 2006

Defensive Signals Against Suit Contracts – She loves me?  She loves me not?  How do you know?

How do you feel about the suit partner has led?  In bridge your cards have to talk for you.  You use the cards you play to tell partner about your hand and give him directions … this is called signaling.  As my friend Roni says “every card tells it own story”.

Objectives:  At the conclusion of this class participants should know:

  1. How defenders help each other.

  2. The three basic types of signals.

  3. How to recognize the situations in which each of the signals occurs.

  4. Which signal to use?
